Women in Defence Awards 2016 - Shortlisting Ceremony

Shortlisting

On Friday 9th September, PA Consulting along with Angela Owen, founder of Women in Defence, hosted the shortlisting ceremony for the 2016 awards at MOD Main Building. Over 200 nominations were received across five categories, with 10 nominees shortlisted per category.

The five award categories are as follows:

  • Inspirational Award
  • Outstanding Contribution Award
  • Most Collaborative Award
  • Special Award (this category was for nominees whose achievements did not fit directly under one of the other categories)
  • Promotion of Gender Diversity (was open to men)

The lunch time event allowed nominees, guests and industry sponsors to network in the grand setting of the Memorial Courtyard. For many of those attending the ceremony it was the first time they had been to MOD Main Building, adding to the glamour of the occasion.
Nick Newman, Head of Global Defence and Security Sector at PA Consulting Group, welcomed around 100 attendees to the event and said: “The nominees represent people who are not only inspirational in their chosen careers but they are also leaders in the truest sense of that word and we honour the commitment they have each made to the defence of our nation”.

Angela Owen said of the nominees: “I’ve read every single nomination submitted. Some of them made me smile, some of them moved me to tears, and all of them reminded me of the exceptional talent, determination and dedication of the women and men in defence”.

The main award event took place on 13 October at the Honourable Artillery Company’s headquarters, in the presence of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach. The top three finalists nominees from each category attended, along with sponsors from the UK Armed Forces, MOD and industry.
