PA's STEM Partnership with 1851 Trust

1851 Trust

1851 Trust and PA have joined forces to inspire the next gen in STEM

We are delighted to announce we have partnered with the 1851 Trust, official Charity of Land Rover BAR, to bring entrants a fun-packed STEM day on 1st December at the Tech Deck and Education Centre at Land Rover BAR’s base in Portsmouth.

For more information and to sign up, please contact us on

Join us on 1 December

We’ve joined forces as our organisations are both trying to empower young people in STEM activities. As part of the event, students will have the opportunity to explore the Tech Deck and Education Centre, which has been designed to introduce young people to the technology and innovation behind the design and development of the ‘boats that fly’.

Some of the impressive exhibits offer prototypes of equipment used by the Land Rover BAR team. One of our favourites being the bone-conduction communication helmet, which allows you to hear sound through the vibration of the bones in your head (skull, jaw bones and cheek bones). This means that the sound waves are bypassing the outer and middle ear (where the eardrum is located) and directly stimulate the inner ear (hearing organ) resulting in the sailors being able to hear and communicate through the wind and waves!

At the event, PA will also facilitate a coding session.

If you’d like to register a group of maximum 7, please contact us on

Spaces are limited and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Please note, the event is most suitable for Key Stage 3 and 4 students.

Where: Land Rover BAR HQ, The Camber, East Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire, P01 2JJ

When: 1st December 10:15am – 2:45pm

The 1851 Trust

The 1851 Trust was launched in October 2014 as the Official Charity of Land Rover BAR, the British team challenging for the America’s Cup – the world’s oldest sporting trophy, which left these shores in 1851, one which Britain has never won. The Trust’s Patrons are Sir Ben Ainslie and HRH the Duchess of Cambridge, and runs sailing and education programmes to enable, engage and encourage young people to broaden their horizons, take up new opportunities and act sustainably.

The 1851 Trust recently launched its own STEM initiative BT STEM Crew, a free digital resource for teachers utilising the challenges and innovation of an America’s Cup sailing team to explore the subjects of science, maths, engineering and technology.

PA are proud to partner with Land Rover BAR in their challenge to win the America’s Cup in 2017.

PA Raspberry Pi 2016

PA's Raspberry Pi Competition

PA’s Raspberry Pi Competition is now open! Now in its fifth successful year, we are challenging entrants to invent under the theme of ‘Innovation for All’.

The aim of this year’s competition is to produce innovations that will improve the lives of people who have conditions that limit their ability to do things the rest of us take for granted. Inventions could range from technology which helps athletes win a medal in the Paralympics, aids visual impairment or learning difficulties, to those which uses music therapy to help mental health.
