As a leading consultancy firm, PA Consulting Group’s success and reputation can only be as good as its people’s capabilities. So it is natural for us to want to create an environment that attracts and develops the best consultants in the world.
To achieve this, we have training and development in place that:
ensures advancement through PA at a rate appropriate to each individual’s capabilities as they develop
provides strong and accurate feedback on each individual’s successes and areas for improvement
seeks a balance between placing the primary responsibility on the individual to develop and providing the personal and infrastructure support required to help make it happen.
Upon joining PA, you will attend an onboarding training session in the UK. You will attend the course with your peers from across PA globally, providing an excellent platform from which you can begin building your network within PA.
We recognise that providing an outstanding training programme, which supports you throughout your career, is essential to your professional development.
Our aim is to develop wide-ranging consulting ability backed up by expertise in one area of specialisation.
This breaks down into five core skill areas:
A total of 45 training courses are available covering these five areas and all consultants complete at least five days of related training each year.
The courses are regularly updated and refreshed by PA’s training and development team. To provide additional support, all consultants have access to a personalised online ‘training path’ which summarises the training they have completed and recommends courses for further development.
We have over 1,000 training opportunities available, which we deliver through courses, resources, events, e-learning kits and individual coaches.
Development is not just about completing courses. We recommend a variety of other methods to help you make the most of your potential:
practical application of your new skills and knowledge
rotation on assignments to keep trying new tasks
taking on management responsibility during client work
accepting additional responsibilities
working on assignments for other practices or in another country.
Our mentoring programme is hugely beneficial to all our new joiners. You will, after three months, start working and meeting with a mentor regularly. Your mentor supports your progress, provides guidance and advice, and acts as a confidential ‘sounding board’ if need be. When you join, you also have the support of a ‘buddy’ to help you navigate and settle into PA.
Training and development for Analysts
Within your first few weeks of joining PA, you will participate in an intensive residential training programme in the UK, at which you will join other new Analysts from our practices and offices around the world. This programme will instil in you a deep understanding of our culture and values, giving you a grounding in consulting and providing the knowledge you need to become a successful Analyst. The programme will also help you begin to develop the practical skills needed for working with clients on assignment.
Your performance will be formally reviewed twice yearly by your line manager, and you also have a review with your assignment manager at the end of every project.
