PA Consulting Group wins award from Management Consultancies Association for its telecommunications work - 06 February 2003

At the Management Consultancies Association awards PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, was Highly Commended for its organisational development work with Orange. This is the third time that PA has won an award for work in the telecommunications and media sector. PA won a total of five prizes at the awards this year. No other consulting firm was given more than two awards this year.

In this highly competitive industry, speed to market is essential for Orange. However it had been experiencing resource bottlenecks that were delaying projects. PA was therefore asked to help.

PA's role was threefold: to identify the underlying reasons for resource bottlenecks; to facilitate practical solutions that would rapidly improve matters; and to help Orange develop the internal capability to drive future change projects.

By improving the way Orange used its existing resources, the company gained extra capacity worth £4 million per annum in the first nine months.

Steve Hopcraft, Director of Technical Transformation Programme, Orange, commented:

"The approach and methodology PA employed to create these impressive outcomes demonstrated that simplicity and common sense are critical to success."

Gareth Firth, member of PA's management committee, commented:

"Our aim was to create a change team that would help Orange's managers improve their own effectiveness and this has paid off. The change team is welcomed by managers. It has helped improve performance and seems set to keep delivering improvement well after PA has withdrawn. Winning this award re-enforces the strength of PA's project management capability."

Jon Moynihan, PA's Chairman and Chief Executive, commented:

"Our sixth year of success is evidence of PA's unique style of consulting. We have repeatedly shown that we consistently add value to our clients' organisations; value that is a large multiple of our fees. We do not have the conflicts of ties to auditing firms or software/hardware houses so our recommendations are untainted by independence issues. We focus on devising pragmatic strategies and business solutions that actually work. We don't spend millions on huge advertising campaigns, but have the confidence to let our track record speak for itself. The MCA awards are testament to our unique approach to consulting and a tribute to the client and consultant teams that delivered these winning assignments.''

He continued:

''We are delighted that the quality of our work and the breadth of our expertise have been recognised in the number of awards we have won this year - more than we have ever won before. In fact, none of our competitors won more than two awards this year. In the six years since the MCA awards started, PA has won more awards than any other firm, winning over 30% of all top awards over this period."
